It Takes Two to Tango--but a Whole Crew to Tengu
The men of Tengu should start a revue. Seriously, the new sushi/sake lounge in Westwood is run by a bunch-o hunkos. Owners Alan Nathan and Anton Posniak, manager Eric Weitzman, bar manager Guy Ravid and bartender Brian Williams look like a Chippendale’s squad. Named after a mischievous mythological Japanese figure, the 2-month-old hot spot charms its guests by brewing up custom-flavored sake--in such amorous flavors as pineapple, strawberry and hazelnut.
By the looks of the muy happening date-place on Saturday, wild wild Westwood may be making a comeback. Weitzman, who also did time with Sean MacPherson and Jon Sidel (at such joints as Swinger’s, Good Luck and the Olive), is opening his own Mexican restaurant, also in the ‘Wood, called El Dorado. That is not to be confused with the downtown hotel venture from Johnny Camacho--another Sean and Jon alum--and company.
We breezed into Tengu on the counsel of Michelle Steinberg, the former House of Blues PR vixen, who now runs her own company. Thankfully, she’s still joined at the hip with HoB founder Isaac Tigrett, who’s living la vida lotus in England but still channeling good vibrations via his latest brainchild, the Internet-driven Spirit Channel. . . . And while we’re on a cosmic trip, lemme just say: Holy cow! That prime-rib-purveying Saddle Ranch Chop House was packed to the rafters on Friday night. You’da thought they were giving away a million bucks. Instead, people were paying bucks to rock that bronco (and that ain’t no bull).
