Three county football players announced college commitments Wednesday: Jeff Dixon of Capistrano Valley received an appointment to West Point; Tom Kazarian of Dana Hills committed to Columbia and Jonathan Ekno of Servite committed to Hawaii.
Dixon, a 6-foot-1, 194-pound quarterback, passed for 1,235 yards and six touchdowns in 1999. Kazarian, a 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive lineman, was selected All-South Coast League. Ekno (6-7, 280) was an All-Serra League selection in 1999 and a Times’ Orange County second-team selection.
* Matt Grootegoed of Mater Dei and Joe McGuire of Servite have been selected to the Parade Magazine High School All-America team. Players from 22 states are represented on the 55-player team. Grootegoed, who played defensive back, quarterback and running back, made the squad as an all-purpose player. McGuire, who has committed to USC, was selected as an offensive lineman.
