Motorola to Split Division
Motorola Inc. said it is splitting its Internet Protocol Network Systems division into five units to better focus on one of its fastest-growing parts businesses. The separate units include cable modems, which makes devices that allow high-speed Internet access over TV cable; Internet protocol telephony, for technology that enables telephone calls over the Internet; and international telephony, to help companies worldwide migrate from slower circuit-based cable telephone systems to those based on the more efficient IP. Motorola was unchanged at $38.13 on the NYSE.
