5-Acre Brush Fire in Moorpark Contained
MOORPARK — A grass and brush fire broke out Saturday afternoon near the site of the old high school in Moorpark and scorched about five acres before being doused, authorities said.
The blaze started shortly after 5 p.m. in the 200 block of Casey Road and was contained a couple of hours later, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
There was little wind, which helped firefighters keep the flames from spreading, said Fire Department spokesman Joe Luna. At one point some homes were threatened, he added.
The cause was not immediately known.
