LAGUNA BEACH
A judge has invalidated an initiative that could have dissolved the Laguna Beach Fire Department into the Orange County Fire Authority.
The Laguna Beach Firefighters Assn. initiated the ballot measure, which stipulated that the Orange County Fire Authority would study the city’s department to determine if the county could better provide services.
If the county discovered it could do a better job, Laguna Beach would have to match its services or let the department merge with the county.
Orange County Superior Court Judge Richard M. Aronson ruled last week that the initiative represented an improper delegation of municipal authority and had flawed and ambiguous language.
