Wilmington Landlord Shot to Death
Police were looking for the killers of a 32-year-old Wilmington landlord, the father of three, who was shot to death Saturday morning, reportedly as he worked to install a security gate on his apartment building.
Los Angeles Police Department homicide detectives said the shooting might have been triggered by Ronald Mark Schumacher’s attempts to keep gang members from threatening his tenants.
Schumacher was in the rear parking lot of the building in the 1100 block of North Wilmington Boulevard about 8:40 a.m., said investigators. A black sport utility vehicle carrying several men drove up and at least one of the men opened fire on Schumacher, striking him several times, police said.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics called to the scene were unable to save him.
