Scuba Diver’s Body Found Off Catalina
The body of a scuba diver who disappeared more than a week ago was recovered Sunday resting on the ocean floor 100 feet below the surface of the water near Catalina Island.
Authorities said they are still investigating what could have happened to John Edward Olsen, 44, an experienced diver from Avalon who went diving with a friend May 27 and never came up.
Sheriff’s search and rescue teams, the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the Harbor Patrol searched for Olsen for six days, but gave up the search Thursday. On Sunday morning, however, a group of divers spotted the body and brought it to the surface.
Officials said foul play is not suspected. Coroner’s officials will try to determine what went wrong, authorities said.
