She came to Hollywood in the 1940s and began as a studio seamstress, eventually moving up to wardrobe supervisor. She dressed the Dead End Kids, Myrna Loy and Julie Andrews and many of the stars, including Jack Lemmon, of director Billy Wilder’s movies including “The Apartment,” “Some Like It Hot” and “Irma La Douce.” She also handled the wardrobe for Elvis Presley in “Kid Galahad.” Caine even designed costumes for a few films, including “Queen of Outer Space” in 1958. A longtime resident of the Motion Picture and Television Country Home, she relished her memories and her scrapbooks. Among the pictures was one of her with Gary Cooper; Caine once told an interviewer in a girlish voice, “Coop--oh, he was such a doll.” On May 31 in Woodland Hills.
