They Saw Another Show

As a mom of two of the world’s biggest ‘N Sync fans (ages 11 and 12), I’m writing to ask you a question. Why did you assign such a mean-spirited, closed-minded old fuddy-duddy (who’s apparently still living in the ‘70s) to review the concert of the hottest group out right now (“ ‘N Sync With the Younger Set,” by Steve Hochman, June 12)?

I was at the ‘N Sync concert at the Rose Bowl with my daughters and several of their friends. What I saw was a group of five very talented, hard-working guys, who have nothing to prove and have nobody they have to live up to. Just because they can pack in record-breaking crowds at stadiums around the country doesn’t mean they need to be compared to any of their predecessors.

Did Hochman ever think that ‘N Sync’s aim is not to entertain him, or even me, for that matter? It has a large target audience of girls ages 10 to 21 who have a craving for good entertainment, and ‘N Sync fits the bill.

Who is this guy anyway? He’s probably some middle-aged hippie has-been who shouldn’t have been within a 10-mile radius of that concert. Why don’t you send (or purchase a review from) someone who is more appreciative of today’s music?

I took my 9-year-old daughter and we had a phenomenal time. She was crazy about the guys, but I too was very impressed with the whole show--the stage, the dance routines, wardrobe and song lineup. They truly showed that they are professional and talented performers.

I am going to the Weenie Roast this weekend, so hopefully you won’t send your grandma (or Hochman) to review this one.

Hochman is scheduled to review the Roast in Monday’s Calendar. Sorry.

Like a lot of parents, I was one of the mothers who went to the concert with my 10-year-old daughter. I agree with Hochman, the “pre-concert” music of the Rolling Stones was geared for the parents. I enjoyed that thoroughly. She told me they were playing Rolling Stones music because Chris (from ‘N Sync) likes them.

I can’t think of any other group I would want my daughter listening to and copying their every move. If they need a replacement, my daughter can fill in--she knows every lyric and every dance move. The smile on her face was worth the ticket price, the T-shirt price ($32 was a little steep, I thought) and $12 for parking. She made it all worthwhile when, halfway through the concert, she screamed at me (over the crowd), “I can’t believe I can actually see them.”

But, Steve, you are correct--Mick and Keith have nothing to worry about. They are the masters.

I handed my 16-year-old, completely dedicated, ‘N Sync fanatic daughter Hochman’s review.

Stacy’s only comment (said with complete sincerity) was, “Who are Mick and Keith?”
