Driver Is Killed in Sylmar Crash
An El Monte man driving eastbound on the Foothill Freeway in Sylmar veered off the roadway, struck a tree and died early Monday morning.
Ignacio Urano, 39, lost control of his 1989 BMW convertible just west of the Polk Street offramp about 12:44 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Matthew Hill. His car careened onto the right shoulder and hit a tree, and he suffered fatal injuries.
Authorities said they did not know how fast he was going or where he was going. They said they suspect Urano was driving under the influence.
