FIRST TEAM
Infielders
Christina Clark
Mater Dei, So.
On those occasions when player of the year Tia Bollinger didn’t get a strikeout, Clark could be counted on for solid defense at shortstop. She batted .385 with 18 RBIs, and also had 11 stolen bases. She struck out only six times as Mater Dei reached the section final for the third consecutive year.
Chezare Sievers
Aliso Niguel, So.
The Wolverines’ rise to No. 7 in Orange County was largely because of their offensive power. Sievers, the league co-MVP, was a clutch performer in that area, batting .416 with 16 RBIs and leading Aliso Niguel to its first Sea View League title. Sievers also scored 17 runs and played a solid second base.
Phelan Wright
Los Alamitos, Sr.
A second-team selection last year, Wright will attend Arizona State in the fall. As sure-handed on defense as any player, she could make the tough play look mundane. She also had a good year at the plate, batting .356 with 21 RBIs and scoring 10 runs as the fourth-ranked Griffins reached the section semifinals.
Outfielders
Kristin Farber
Los Alamitos, Sr.
A center fielder whose speed helped her bat .474, Farber batted leadoff and stole a county-high 43 bases. She also scored 28 runs, lifting Los Alamitos to a share of the Sunset League title. A four-time all-county selection, Farber was a first-team choice on three occasions and will attend Arizona State.
Dana Kenney
Rosary, Jr.
Kenney played a pivotal role offensively and defensively in Rosary’s success. She ignited the offense with a .427 average, stole 12 bases and helped Rosary rise to No. 5 in Orange County. Kenney scored 19 runs and helped the Royals post victories over Mater Dei’s Tia Bollinger and Valley View’s Keira Goerl.
Caitlin Lowe
Foothill, Fr.
Lowe led off on the county’s fastest team, a squad that had two former leadoff batters in the lineup, Erin Mobley and Autumn Champion. She batted .417 with a .487 on-base average, stole 33 bases and scored 30 runs. She also batted .395 with runners in scoring position and had five assists.
Pitchers
Courtney Fossatti
Foothill, Jr.
On the first team for the third consecutive season, Fossatti went 23-1 with a 0.04 earned-run average. Opponents batted just .084 against her and her ERA was the county’s second-best. She batted .360, scored 22 runs and had 29 RBIs. No slouch on the basepaths, she stole 15 bases.
Natalie King
Fountain Valley, Sr.
Texas-bound King is a two-time first-team choice. She was 24-8 with a 0.29 ERA and 376 strikeouts in 242 innings. The six losses were because the sixth-ranked Barons, who shared the Sunset League title, failed to score in seven innings or more. Opponents batted .091, averaging 2.2 hits per seven innings.
Steffany Stenglein
Marina, Sr.
Stenglein emerged among the county’s best pitchers, going 18-3 with a 0.42 ERA, lifting Marina to a No. 3 ranking and a three-way tie for the Sunset League title. Headed for Southern Mississippi, she also drove in 16 runs for the Vikings and threw 253 pitches in a 20-inning victory over No. 4 Los Alamitos.
Michelle Turner
Kennedy, So.
A second-team selection a year ago, Turner was slowed early in the season by a back injury from an auto accident. Nevertheless, she turned in a strong all-around performance, batting a team-high .329 and going 16-5 with a 0.53 ERA. She had only eight walks in 170 2/3 innings, and struck out 217 for the ninth-ranked Irish.
First baseman
Kristen Mann
Foothill, Jr.
For the second year in a row, Mann is a first-team selection in both basketball and softball. She batted .337 in a cleanup role for the top-ranked Knights, scored 13 runs and drove in 23 in their Division I title drive. She also fielded her position superbly, committing only three errors in 214 chances.
Catcher
Natalie Golda
Rosary, Sr.
A team leader in Rosary’s program since her freshman season, Golda was a second-team all-county utility player last year. She split time at first base, but remained one of the county’s best catchers and most feared clutch hitters. She batted .289, with six home runs and 27 RBIs.
Designated hitter
Alicia Owen
Loara, So.
Owen led the Saxons to a 15-1 record and a spot in the top 10 until a back injury inhibited her performance. She batted .408 with 24 RBIs and scored 18 runs. As a pitcher, she finished 11-5 with a 0.65 ERA before moving into the outfield and to second base and designated hitter in the season’s final weeks.
Utility
Andee Lindgre
Sonora, Sr.
Lindgren split time at pitcher and first base. As a pitcher, she had the county’s third-lowest ERA, 0.11, while compiling a 12-5 record and helping the Raiders into the top 10. Lindgren was also a valuable asset defensively, going the whole season without an error despite making more than 200 plays.
