Taxpayer Assn. Chief Leaving for New Job
The president of the Ventura County Taxpayers Assn. announced Wednesday he is resigning to accept a job with Oxnard’s oldest and largest accounting firm.
Mike Saliba, 58, who had been with the association since 1993, will begin July 5 as administrator of Soares, Sandall, Bernacchi & Petrovich.
Association chairman Tim Wolfe said he is considering several candidates to replace Saliba.
Saliba acted as spokesman for the 325-member organization, testified at local government hearings and researched decisions relevant to taxpayers.
County supervisors praised Saliba as a well-respected, innovative advocate known for thorough research on issues pertinent to taxpayers. However, some board members criticized Saliba last month for refusing to oppose Community Memorial Hospital’s ballot measure seeking to funnel a $260-million tobacco settlement to private health-care providers and give nothing to the Ventura County Medical Center.
