Fountain Valley Team Advances at Soccer Tournament

Fountain Valley High’s Cliff McKinley scored in overtime to give the Fountain Valley Wolfpack under-18 boys’ soccer team a 2-1 victory over the Sereno (Ariz.) ’82 Golden Eagles in the semifinals of the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championship in Pleasanton and Dublin, Calif.
The Wolfpack will play River City United Rush in today’s final. Three Orange County girls’ teams also advanced to finals.
The Southern California Blues under-16 team defeated Sereno ’84 Golden Eagles, 3-1; the Slammers’ under-14 team beat Neusport (Nev.) FC Tabagators, 3-1; and the West Coast FC Premier under-12 team defeated Colorado Rush Nike, 4-0.
The Irvine Strikers under-19 boys’ team, Mission Viejo Magic’s under-17 girls’ team and the Slammers’ under-15 girls’ team lost in the semifinals.
