An elderly man riding a bicycle on California 126 near Fillmore was struck from behind by a car and killed Monday evening, officials said.
The man appeared to be in his 70s but carried no identification, authorities said.
Police said a Simi Valley woman driving westbound near Sycamore Road shortly after 6 p.m. drifted onto the right shoulder and struck the bicyclist.
The man was dragged for more than 100 feet by her 1998 Lexus, authorities said.
Sharon Austel, 54, was not cited and the cause of the accident is under investigation. Authorities found no evidence that drugs or alcohol was a factor.
Austel’s husband, Otto, was a passenger in the car, but was asleep at the time of the accident.
The bicyclist frequently rides along the highway, witnesses told authorities.
