Amnesty Proposal
Jorge Bustamante’s endorsement of the AFL-CIO demand to grant amnesty to illegal workers in this country should be an embarrassment to everyone of Mexican heritage (Commentary, Feb. 25). He is still fixed on the old vision of a poor Mexico that had to export its people to survive. The new Mexico, booming with NAFTA trade and its new trade agreements with Europe, riding the crest of the highest oil prices in decades, is an industrial powerhouse, well able to take care of its own.
Monterrey provides a much better picture of the new Mexico than Bustamante’s Tijuana.
