ROUNDUP
Ben Walker’s commanding victory in the 75-lap Food 4 Less Super Late Model race at Irwindale Speedway on Saturday night was more special than the others.
After the victory, Walker, of North Hills, paid tribute to fourth-generation driver Adam Petty by taking a victory lap backward around the 1/2-mile speedway. Petty died in a crash at New Hampshire Speedway on May 12.
“It’s something that really touched me because we’re both the same age. It shows that it can happen to anyone,” Walker, 19, said.
Walker led all 75 laps and was never challenged for the lead to gain his second win of the season.
John Zernickon of Monrovia won the 25-lap Legends Series race on the 1/3-mile track. Also on the 1/3-mile, Bob Reed of Riverside captured the 25-lap NASCAR Mini Stock race, his third in a row.
Rip Michels of Mission Hills led all 30 laps to win the NASCAR Grand American Modifieds race and Darren Young of Gilbert, Ariz., won the 50-lap Mechanix Wear speed truck race.
