Seventeen Sonora High School seniors have received scholarships for college tuition. The California Masonic Foundation awarded $11,185 to Somer Scott, 17, and $2,500 to Dao Nguyen, 18, based on their academic excellence, placing them alongside only 100 other students in the state to receive the award, school officials said. Dollars for Scholars, which recognizes academic and community achievement, recognized nine Sonora High seniors, including “Miss La Habra” Kelly Singer, 17, with the 2000 Community Volunteer Service Award and a $500 scholarship each.
The North Orange County Regional Occupational Program saluted six students for excellence, awarding Rachel Gomez, 18, the $2000 Inspirational Award. Other students received scholarships ranging from $125 to $500, school officials said.
