Two people were killed Friday night in a three-car collision on California 138, after a driver tried to pass a slow-moving truck, the California Highway Patrol said.
Catherine Williams, a 35-year-old Palmdale resident, was driving eastbound on California 138 near 165th Street about 10:15 p.m., when she crossed double yellow lines to pass a big rig, according to the accident report.
The 1988 Chevrolet Blazer collided head-on with a Chevrolet pickup truck, went airborne and landed on top of a Ford Taurus, authorities said.
Williams suffered major head injuries and died at the scene.
Delion Thomas Jamerson, 23, of Lancaster, who was driving the Ford, also suffered major head injuries and was flown to Antelope Valley Hospital, where he died a few hours later.
The driver of the pickup, a 22-year-old Las Vegas man, suffered cuts above his left eye. A 19-year-old woman in the truck was unhurt.
All four people involved in the accident were wearing seat belts, authorities said.
