St. Bonaventure Has Day at Beach Against Malibu

This is what happens when a team with one victory makes the football playoffs.

St. Bonaventure High rolled up 491 yards, forced four turnovers and blocked a punt en route to a 69-7 Division XI first-round victory over Malibu at Ventura High on Saturday.

The fourth quarter was played with a running clock.

The Seraphs (11-0), defending Division XI champions, won their 25th consecutive game.

Malibu (1-9-1) finished fourth in the Frontier League.

“This is a self-motivated and self-disciplined group,” Coach Jon Mack of St. Bonaventure said. “I was very happy with the way we practiced this week and with our production in the first quarter.”

Each team ran 14 plays in the first quarter. St. Bonaventure gained 249 yards and limited the Sharks to seven.

The Seraphs’ offensive starters were in as a unit for six possessions and scored six times. The starters averaged 17.4 yards a play. No drive took more than five plays and the six possessions combined lasted five minutes 56 seconds.

Jack Swisher’s 12-yard touchdown pass to Whitney Lewis gave the Seraphs a 41-0 lead with 7:59 left in the first half.

Lorenzo Booker ran seven times for 209 yards and three touchdowns despite battling the flu most of the week.

Booker came back into the game after leaving with 7:59 remaining in the first half, scoring on a 47-yard run on the Seraphs’ first play of the second half before leaving for good.

“For me to run like this, the way I feel, the offensive line deserves all of the credit,” Booker said. “I wish I could take them all with me to college.”

Tight end Lewis Lopez and receiver Ian Johnson, who had no carries during the season, each rushed for a touchdown for St. Bonaventure.

The Sharks scored on Kelen Hansen’s 65-yard interception return of backup Ace Davis’ pass with 18 seconds left in the first half.
