Plans for Campus Farm Laboratory
[A recent] community forum at Pierce College outlined some interesting and substantial possibilities for campus development. Only one thing was left out. The community finds little problem building the dorms, housing and office buildings on the campus--so long is it is built on the 160 acres of nonfarm land. Pierce has an abundance of underused nonfarm land. No more urban sprawl is the cry from the community. The small (by farm standards) 240-acre Pierce farm laboratory needs to be left in tact. [I] hope the community will once again rally behind this unique environmentally sensitive community resource and demand the proposed buildings (if they are to be built) be on the nonfarm land.
