Lakers Sign Mike Penberthy to Contract
Mike Penberthy, a former Master’s College All-American, was signed by the Lakers to a free-agent contract.
The 6-foot-3 guard graduated in 1997 and holds a number of school records, including career points (2,616) and career free-throw percentage (.878). He averaged 27.3 points his senior season.
Penberthy played three seasons overseas, including last year with the Hamburg Tigers.
BASEBALL
* The Arizona Diamondbacks, the new major league affiliate of Class-A Lancaster, have retained Scott Coolbaugh and his High Desert staff to run the JetHawks next season.
Joining Coolbaugh will be hitting coach Rich Schu and pitching coach Mike Parrott.
Patrick Bailes, a left-handed pitcher from Carson High and Harbor College, has committed to Cal State Northridge for 2001, said assistant Coach Steve Gossett.
