John Steven Sherwood; College Student
College student John Steven Sherwood of Moorpark died after falling off a balcony in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Sept. 30. He was 19.
He was born July 25, 1981, to Ralph and Patti Sleven Sherwood in Los Alamitos.
Last year, he graduated from Moorpark High School and attended Moorpark College. For five years, he had been a Junior Teen Council member on the Moorpark City Council.
Fulfilling a lifelong dream, he was attending Hawaii Pacific University.
Sherwood was an avid surfer and could always be found at the beach, his family said.
In addition to his parents and a brother, Daniel, Sherwood is survived by paternal grandmother Rosemary Sherwood, and maternal grandmother Edna Sleven.
A vigil service and visitation will be held at 8 tonight at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Simi Valley.
A burial Mass is scheduled at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima. Graveside services will follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Simi Valley.
Arrangements are under the direction of Reardon Simi Valley Mortuary.
