Members of the St. Petersburg (Fla.) High band refused to play the national anthem before Sunday’s Tampa Bay season finale after Devil Ray officials told them they would have to pay $6 each to enter Tropicana Field. The band had been invited to play the anthem after the 75 members sold 203 Devil Ray tickets as part of a fund-raiser, making $406 for the band.

“I was insulted,” principal Linda Benware said. “We’re an inner-city school. There’s no way you could convince me those kids should have to pay to play the national anthem at a baseball game.”
