Dergan Delivers for Ventura, 4-3
Natalia Dergan scored from four yards with less than two minutes remaining to give Ventura College a 4-3 victory over Santa Barbara in a Western State Conference Northern Division women’s soccer game Friday at Santa Barbara.
Ventura (11-2-1, 5-1) overcame a 2-1 second-half deficit behind Dergan, who finished with two goals. Jen Graham had two assists, including one on the decisive goal.
In other women’s soccer games:
Canyons 8, Citrus 0--Heather Zubis scored two first-half goals and the Cougars (8-5-2, 4-3) took a 3-0 halftime advantage en route to a WSC Southern Division victory at Canyons.
Emma Barber also scored in the first half and finished with two goals.
Moorpark 1, Hancock 0--Karina Lombana scored on a crossing pass from Tia Rose McEvers in a WSC match at Moorpark.
Rachel Lowenstein had eight saves for the Raiders (4-2).
San Diego 1, Pepperdine 0--Claire Currie scored an unassisted goal for the Toreros (9-4) in a West Coast Conference opener at San Diego.
Cheri Phillips had five saves for Pepperdine (9-2-1), which outshot San Diego, 9-8.
MEN’S SOCCER
Moorpark 1, Santa Barbara 1--Russell Prior scored for Moorpark (2-4-3, 0-0-1) in the 35th minute with an assist from Chris Swatosh, but Marco Ybarra of Santa Barbara scored in the second half of a WSC match at Santa Barbara.
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
Valley 6, Fullerton 6--Shelly Stiles scored three goals for Valley (7-5-1) during pool play in the Ventura tournament.
Fullerton, ranked No. 10 in the state, scored two goals in the final 1:45.
Debbie Hoch had six saves for Valley.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Cal Lutheran def. Caltech, 15-2, 15-2, 15-3--Amanda Kiser had nine kills and four aces for the Regals (9-6), who won a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match in 43 minutes at Cal Lutheran.
Moorpark def. Canyons, 15-8, 12-15, 15-8, 15-11--Carina Nusinov had 20 kills and three solo blocks, and Toni Ann Merendino added 19 kills and 14 digs for the Raiders (7-1, 4-0) in a WSC interdivision victory over Canyons at Moorpark.
