Stephan Gregoire, driver for Dick Simon Racing of Dana Point, will be in a backup car Sunday for the Excite 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Gregoire escaped with bruises to his left knee and ankle in an accident while testing a narrow-suspension G Force chassis Thursday. He slammed into the wall and barrel-rolled 1 1/2 times across the TMS infield.

“Unfortunately, we won’t know if it was a better [chassis] or not,” Gregoire said Monday. “It’s upsetting because we didn’t do any mistakes--something broke.

“The first impact was very violent, then I flipped over. That wasn’t too tough--nothing compares to hitting the wall.”

The car was one of three 2000 narrow-suspension chassis made by G Force. Gregoire’s backup car, a conventional G Force with regular track suspension, is almost new--it has about 10 laps on it at Pikes Peak International Raceway.

Edison Field will be the site of three events during the 16-race 2001 EA Sports Supercross season, it was announced.

The season-opening event is Jan. 6, with other races on Jan. 20 and Feb. 3. Supercross will race in San Diego on Jan. 13 and Phoenix on Jan. 27, before heading to Indianapolis on Feb. 10. The season ends May 5 in Las Vegas.
