Elizabeth Streb’s “Action Heroes,” which receives its West Coast premiere at the Irvine Barclay Theatre, was inspired by stunt artists Cannonball Richard (he caught them in his gut), Annie Taylor (the first person to survive Niagara Falls in a barrel) and Evel Knievel, among others. The New York choreographer describes her work as “pop action” to signal its high-impact, high-velocity style.

“Other Views From the Edge” is a three-part exhibition from photographer Jacques L. Garnier that includes color and black-and-white selections. Garnier has chronicled the confrontations between image and reality in cities such as Los Angeles, New York and New Orleans.

Hey Ab-BOTT! Bud and Lou encounter Universal’s gallery of monsters in the 1948 comedy “Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein,” presented by the Alex Film Society. Bela Lugosi as Dracula, Lon Chaney Jr. as the Wolf Man, Glenn Strange as Frankenstein’s Monster and Vincent Price as the Invisible Man co-star in the film, regarded as one of Abbott and Costello’s best. The evening also includes the 1945 Looney Tunes cartoon “A Tale of Two Mice” and is hosted by author Jeffrey Miller (“The Horror Spoofs of Abbott and Costello”). Halloween costumes are encouraged.
