Patient Transported Safely After Helicopter Forced Down
LOS ANGELES — A Las Vegas man made it into surgery on time Friday after the medical helicopter in which he was riding made an unplanned landing because of fog.
The helicopter was on its way to UCLA Medical Center in Westwood when the pilot learned the facility was fogged in.
The chopper landed near the San Diego Freeway, near Sepulveda Boulevard and Getty Center Drive, around 9:40 a.m., according to city fire spokesman Bob Collis.
An ambulance took the patient, Ennis Sorenson, to the hospital. Sorenson, a business executive from Las Vegas who is in his 50s, was on his way to have a lung transplant, said UCLA Medical Center spokeswoman Roxanne Moster.
