Lockheed Settlement

Re “Lockheed Settles With Residents for $5 Million,” Oct. 18.

I have been a very-longtime resident of Burbank. For 35 of those years, I lived under the flight pattern of the airport. (I have only been away from the area for five years.) I am sorry that Lockheed Martin gave in to the residents, and I hope that the judge upholds the settlement, even though some say it is not enough.

The only ones receiving any real dollars are the litigating lawyers. What, I wonder, is enough? I guess the recipients should speak to their lawyers; maybe they will share some of their fees. I am surprised that every person with an ailment didn’t sue the great big naughty corporation. I wonder how many of the residents in the whole area that are suing or have sued have never dumped oil into the gutters, or dumped turpentine, after painting, into the ground behind their homes or cleaned their paintbrushes in the same yard. I wonder how many still do.

My husband died two years ago from early-onset dementia after being in a nursing home for 10 years. I guess I should have blamed Lockheed. You know, it never occurred to me. Maybe now I should climb on the bandwagon and say that it was the chromium 6 that did it.

There are well over 90,000 residents in the area who should find one of the hand wringing lawyers and see how many dollars they can sue for on this new information. I can see it now.
