Navy Pilot Lost at Sea in Jet Crash
From Reuters
An F-18 U.S. Navy Hornet fighter crashed into the Pacific Ocean, about 90 miles off the coast of San Diego, Navy officials said Saturday.
Navy officials said the pilot was presumed lost at sea.
The plane, which holds only the pilot, crashed Friday about 7:20 p.m., shortly after takeoff from the aircraft carrier Constellation, Navy Cmdr. Dave Koontz said.
The pilot, whose name was withheld pending notification of his family, was on a routine flight operation, Koontz said.
The Navy was investigating the cause of the crash.
