L.A. Baptist Outlasts Village Christian, 35-27, in Bible Bowl
Village Christian High had its opportunities Saturday night in the annual Bible Bowl against L.A. Baptist, but the Crusaders simply ran out of time in a 35-27 loss in an Alpha League game at Alemany High.
Trailing, 35-27, with 1:11 remaining, Village Christian (3-4, 0-2) drove 51 yards to the L.A. Baptist 39-yard line. But Neil Gunn bobbled the snap and was tackled for an eight-yard loss on the final play.
The rivals combined for 874 yards. The Knights (7-1, 2-1) rolled up 462 yards, including 192 rushing and three touchdowns in 17 carries by Lord Cole.
Steven Graham completed 10 of 15 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for 76 yards in 12 carries for L.A. Baptist.
Gunn completed 15 of 27 passes for 226 yards and a touchdown with one interception. Aaron Owen rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown in 22 carries for the Crusaders.
