A city committee has decided to hold off on giving field time to a year-round soccer club proposed for city residents only.
“AYSO just does not have available field time to give up,” said John Banks, recreation supervisor for the Laguna Niguel Sports Advisory Committee.
With several new fields nearly ready for use, the committee will wait to see if the city will be able to accommodate an additional soccer organization next year, Banks added.
About 3,100 youngsters on 200 AYSO teams are already tightly scheduled on the city’s 12 regulation fields, and their games spill over onto the outfields of eight baseball diamonds.
