Robinson to Stay in U.N. Rights Job

Mary Robinson, the United Nations high commissioner for human rights, will remain in her post until September 2002, U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said in Nairobi.
Robinson, a former president of Ireland, said last month that she would step down at the end of her four-year term in September. She changed her mind after hearing appeals from various leaders, including French President Jacques Chirac, U.N. sources said.
“I am delighted to say that I have prevailed upon her . . . to stay on for one more year,” Annan said.
