A blaze at a pet grooming business in Norwalk on Wednesday morning killed 28 dogs and cats and sent as many as 23 to animal hospitals, authorities said.
Most of the pets died from smoke inhalation after a fire broke out shortly before 7:40 a.m. at Anna’s Pet Grooming in the 12000 block of Firestone Boulevard, said Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Mike Brown. The owner of the store, who spotted the fire as she arrived, was treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation and released, Brown said.
The cause of the fire was a faulty electrical outlet box, Brown said. Damage to the building was minimal, the inspector said.
