Hudler to Remain Hospitalized
Rex Hudler may never know what caused blood to spill onto the surface of his brain last week, but doctors told the Angel television analyst Tuesday that he appears out of danger and on the road to recovery.
“Rex just said it was a miracle,” said his broadcast partner, Steve Physioc.
Two angiograms and an MRI examination revealed that Hudler had bleeding on his brain and spine, which has since stopped, and that he did not suffer an aneurysm, as doctors first suspected when he was hospitalized Saturday.
The tests failed to isolate the cause of the bleeding, Angel spokesman Tim Mead said. Hudler will remain hospitalized and under observation for an indefinite time.
Hudler plans to speak by telephone with XTRA (690 AM) on his regularly scheduled radio show today at 8:40 a.m. Former Angel pitcher Mark Langston will fill in for Hudler on the telecasts, though Hudler told Physioc that he would love to return as soon as this weekend.
In a statement, Hudler and his wife Jennifer expressed their thanks to the numerous well-wishers.
“The medical personnel I’ve kept company with since Saturday have been awesome,” Hudler said. “They’ve run their tests and established my brain is still intact. I’m confident the test results will show I had a momentary setback . . .
“This whole experience has reinforced in me the privilege of life. I look forward to getting back to work, seeing my friends and being around the great game of baseball.”
