Jacobs’ Hit Lifts Calabasas
John Henry Jacobs hit a run-scoring single with two out in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Calabasas High a 3-2 victory over Upland (12-3), the No. 2-ranked team in the Southern Section Division I, in an American Division pool-play game of the Babe Herman baseball tournament Wednesday at Stengel Field in Glendale.
Calabasas (12-4), an unranked Division III team, came back from a 2-0 deficit, tying the score on a two-run double by Glen Anderson with two out in the sixth.
Anderson (1-1) allowed one hit and two walks with no strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings. He relieved Justin Segal, who allowed two runs, five hits and two walks and struck out five in 7 1/3 innings.
Jacobs finished with three hits.
El Camino Real 10, Chaffey 5--Chris Scott allowed one run and four hits with three strikeouts and two walks in five innings for the Conquistadores (8-8) in a National Division game of the Babe Herman tournament.
Quartz Hill 11, Serrano 1--Dustin Petzold had three hits and four runs batted in for the Rebels in a Baldwin Park tournament game called after six innings because of the 10-run rule at Nogales High.
Jacob Ingram hit a three-run double in a six-run sixth for Quartz Hill (10-6).
Simi Valley 5, Thousand Oaks 4--Casey Belmonte singled home the winning run in the seventh of a Marmonte League game at Simi Valley.
Mike Nykoluk hit a run-scoring triple and Casey Gordon had a run-scoring double for Simi Valley (9-6, 4-3 in league play).
Canyon 11, Baldwin Park 1--Chris Seddon struck out 10 in a five-hitter for the Cowboys (9-6-1) in a Baldwin Park tournament victory at Baldwin Park.
Fillmore 3, Bishop Diego 2--Jose Gutierrez pitched a six-hitter and singled in the winning run in the ninth inning of a Tri-Valley League game at Fillmore (8-6, 6-2).
Gutierrez struck out nine and recorded his seventh complete game.
HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
Notre Dame 2, Louisville 0--Amanda De La Cerda pitched a two-hitter with three strikeouts for the Knights (9-3, 2-0) in a Mission League game at Tarzana Park.
