2 Indicted in United Stolen Parts Scheme

A federal grand jury indicted two men on charges of participating in a multimillion-dollar scheme to defraud UAL Corp.’s United Airlines, the U.S. attorney’s office said. Richard Darren Harper, 37, of San Clemente and Norman Jeffry Tucker, 50, a former resident of Seattle, were indicted last week on conspiracy, mail fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering and other counts, the government said. Harper, a former United employee, is accused of stealing electronic parts from United’s maintenance facility at the San Francisco International Airport and shipping them to Tucker, prosecutors said. Tucker sold the parts back to United Airlines, giving kickbacks to Harper, who was employed as a buyer for United Airlines, the government said. The events allegedly occurred from 1997 to 2000.The indictment was unsealed Monday.
