Danny Garcia’s run-scoring single in the ninth inning gave Pepperdine a 5-4 victory over Cal State Northridge on Tuesday in a nonconference baseball game in Malibu.

Reliever Jacob Barrack (2-1) allowed one run in four innings.

Three pitchers held Tim Arroyo hitless, ending the Northridge first baseman’s hitting streak at 25 games.

Outfielder Woody Cliffords, formerly of El Camino Real High, had three hits and scored three runs for 13th-ranked Pepperdine (28-12).

Eric Verbryke had three hits for the Matadors (24-16).

Pierce 8, Valley 0--Joel Kirsten (5-1) allowed four hits, struck out nine and walked two in seven innings for the Brahmas in a Western State Conference Southern Division victory at Pierce.

Kirsten, Kurt Birkins and Brian Jacobsen combined on a five-hitter.

David Keesee had three hits and two runs batted in for Pierce (21-11, 12-5).

Glendale 12, Bakersfield 10--John Manuel’s two-run single with two out in the seventh inning capped a five-run rally and gave the Vaqueros an 11-9 lead in a WSC Southern Division game at Glendale.

Fernando Valenzuela Jr.’s two-run triple with two out tied the score, 9-9.

Manuel had three hits and two RBIs, and Valenzuela had three hits and two RBIs for the Vaqueros (24-8, 14-4), who maintained a one-half game lead over Citrus.

Bakersfield is 16-15, 7-11.

Oxnard 4, Hancock 3--Scott Robertson (4-2) allowed six hits and struck out four in eight innings of a WSC Northern Division game at Oxnard.

Jared Krehbiel, Josh Miller and Mario Castro each had two hits for Oxnard (17-15, 10-7).

WOMEN’S SOFTBALL

Canyons 6, Citrus 1--Stephanie Blaire (13-8) pitched a four-hitter, struck out five and walked one for the Cougars in a WSC Southern Division game at Citrus.

Rian Standley had two hits and drove in two runs for Canyons, which clinched a share of its third consecutive division title.

Lacy Bregger had two hits, one RBI and scored once for the Cougars (24-11, 16-3), who can clinch the title against Valley on Thursday.

BOYS’ GOLF

Valencia 384, Buena 388--Freshman Brandon Christianson of Valencia (22-9) was medalist at two-under-par 70 at Olivas Park Golf Course in Ventura.

Mike Ruffin shot 71 and Tyson Briner was at 72 for Buena (5-6-1).

BOYS’ TENNIS

El Camino Real 4, Granada Hills 3--James Magsino, Matt Jones, Dan Nguyen and Bruce Aiken won singles matches for the Conquistadores at Granada Hills.

Granada Hills (9-2, 6-2) won all three doubles matches.
