Paraclete High has hired J.R. Chapman to coach the boys’ basketball team.
Chapman, who graduated from Paraclete in 1989, was an All-Southern Section player and served as an assistant for the last three seasons under Andy Gavel, who resigned after the season.
Susan Hervey, Paraclete’s girls’ coach for seven seasons, resigned this week.
* Cecil Brown, an All-City forward-guard at Canoga Park High, has signed with UC Santa Barbara.
Brown, 6 feet 4, led region scorers last season at 34.5 points per game. He averaged 13.1 rebounds.
“The combination of what he brings to UCSB academically, athletically and as a person, is absolutely ideal,” Coach Bob Williams said. “We could not have gotten a more perfect fit.”
BASEBALL
* Notre Dame is scheduled to hold its alumni game today at 10 a.m. It was rained out in February.
GOLF
* The Hart Quarterback Club is holding its 16th annual tournament May 7 at Robinson Ranch Gold Course.
