A man in his late teens or early 20s died Sunday after he was found severely burned near a stolen car in a rural area north of Lancaster, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
The unidentified man was found about 8 a.m. on 92nd Street West, near Avenue A-12, close to the Kern County line, said Sheriff’s Lt. Gordon Carn of the Lancaster station.
“It’s flat desert,” he said. “There’s nothing out there . . . but a scattering of houses.”
The man died in the afternoon at Antelope Valley Hospital, said Deputy Faye Bugarin, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Department. The stolen car had not been set on fire, she added.
Homicide detectives and arson specialists are investigating the man’s death, Bugarin said.
