Car Tax Rebates

* So Sacramento has decided that refunding overcharged fees for auto licenses need no longer give Gov. Gray Davis a free public relations ride (“A U-Turn on Car Tax Rebates,” April 20). It is hard to imagine that such a collusive agreement between the Legislature and governor could be devised--to rectify an overcharge by continuing it. It certainly wasn’t fuzzy math; it was, to the contrary, very well calculated!
His publicity stunt should never have been subsidized, much less to the tune of $9.4 million. I hope that before his tenure is over, Davis and his cohorts will be able to return this amount to the state, with interest.
