City Council OKs Plan to Reorganize Committees

The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to reorganize its committee system to include the creation of a special panel to work with the school district and neighborhood councils.
Under Council President Alex Padilla’s plan, approved on a 14-0 vote, the Education and Neighborhoods Committee will search for ways to build more schools while overseeing the implementation of a network of neighborhood councils.
The city lawmakers also agreed to restructure responsibilities on four existing committees--a move that will help the council focus its priorities for the next two years. The council’s Governmental Efficiency Committee will be asked to respond to audits produced by the controller, while the Housing and Community Redevelopment Committee will be restructured to address more affordable housing issues.
Padilla is scheduled to announce assignments to the council committees today.
