Pierce College Foundation will have a big band dance fund-raiser with Ray Anthony and his orchestra on Friday night in Woodland Hills. Singer Madeline Vergari will perform, and Chuck Cecil will serve as master of ceremonies at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel.

Mystery Theater

Woodland Hills Community Theatre will open its production of Agatha Christie’s “Spider’s Web” Friday in Canoga Park. The whodunit is directed by Jon Berry.

Jazz Shows

Valley jazz buffs get two chances to hear top Los Angeles sax man Doug Webb this weekend. Webb will be part of jazz vocalist Michael Tompkins’ 17-piece orchestra performing Saturday in “A Swingin’ Affair” at the Madrid Theatre in Canoga Park. Webb has performed with Freddie Hubbard, Doc Severinsen, Horace Silver, Tom Jones and Kyle Eastwood. “A Swingin’ Affair” is Tompkins’ tribute to Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Count Basie. Comic Sammy Shore will open the show. Proceeds will benefit the San Fernando Valley Arts Council and Friends of the Madrid Theatre. Webb also will perform with pianist Mitch Forman and bassist John Leftwich on Sunday at Spazio’s in Sherman Oaks.

Symphony Concert

Los Angeles Philharmonic violinist Mitchell Newman will be the featured soloist Sunday when the New Valley Symphony Orchestra performs the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Opus 26, at Forest Lawn. The orchestra also will perform pieces by Mendelssohn, Sibelius and the posthumous world premiere of a work by late Valley composer Richard Jetter.
