A 30-year-old Glendale man died early Friday after his car rear-ended a slow-moving big rig on the San Diego Freeway, authorities said.
The man, whose name was not released pending notification of his family, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 2:05 a.m. crash, which occurred north of Burbank Boulevard.
California Highway Patrol officers reported the wide-load tractor-trailer was traveling north in the far right-hand lane at about 35 mph when the man, driving a Toyota Corolla, rapidly approached in the same lane, apparently not seeing the truck until it was too late.
The driver applied his brakes but collided with the rear of the trailer and was killed, the CHP said.
Officials had not determined Friday if alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident, which is under investigation.
