Dare Wright; Photographer Wrote ‘The Lonely Doll’
Dare Wright, 86, a photographer and children’s book author best known for her work “The Lonely Doll.” Wright’s story about Edith, a doll befriended by a pair of teddy bears, was first published in 1957 and was adorned with Wright’s own photographs. She would later write eight more books about Edith and the bears. The first book was reissued in 1998. Born in Thornhill, Canada, Wright moved to New York in 1933 and worked as an actress and model before becoming a successful photographer. On Jan. 25 in Manhattan.
