High school students interested in the arts are invited to apply for both a special summer school program and a college scholarship.
The California State Summer School for the Arts is a monthlong program that will take place at CalArts in Valencia from July 14 to Aug. 11. Students in eighth grade through 12th grade are eligible to apply in various categories, including dance, music, film and video, theater, and creative writing.
Students can request an application online at https://www.csssa.org, by calling (916) 227-9320 or by writing to the program at 4825 J St., Suite 120, Sacramento, CA 95819. The application deadline is Feb. 28, and there are scholarships available for students who cannot afford the summer program.
Additionally, the Emerging Young Artist Award recognizes talented students who intend to pursue careers in the arts. Award recipients will receive up to $20,000 to help pay for college. Students can apply in one of four categories: dance, music, theater and visual arts.
Applications, which must be postmarked by March 1, are available online at https://www.artsed411.org, or by calling (626) 817-6300. Semifinalists must participate in an audition and interview in Los Angeles.
