Transit Zone Funds Endorsed
In a vote of confidence for efforts to create a separate bus system for the San Fernando Valley, the Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday endorsed funding to complete an application for creation of a Valley Transit Zone.
The council voted to ask the Southern California Assn. of Governments to divert $100,000 budgeted from city transit programs to a joint powers authority overseeing a study of the zone’s viability and an application to create the Valley bus system.
To address the concerns of some council members, the council action Wednesday directed that the study include an examination of how creation of a Valley zone might affect bus service in the rest of Los Angeles.
