In another Division I-A wild-card game:

Ventura 52, Katella 51--Matt Gruber’s free throw with 9.6 seconds remaining gave host Ventura (16-12) the victory.

Phillip Tyson scored 23 points for Katella (12-15).

In Division I-AAA:

Esperanza 76, Alta Loma 74 (OT)--Mark Lovein scored 30 points, including the game-winning basket in overtime, for visiting Esperanza (13-14).

Eric Weddle’s three-point basket for Alta Loma (13-13) at the end of regulation forced overtime.

In Division II-AA:

Cerritos Gahr 60, Garden Grove 57 (OT)--Garden Grove’s Andy Scimeca made two three-pointers in the final 20 seconds, including a tying basket with two seconds left in regulation, but the Argonauts (14-12) were outscored, 5-2, in overtime.

In Division II-A first-round games:

Fullerton 58, Barstow 37--Virgil Bobar had 24 points, 18 rebounds and six assists for host Fullerton (19-9).

Pacifica 71, Compton 63--Kelly Gurnea scored 11 of his 24 points in the first quarter for the Mariners (6-21).

In Division V-A:

Tarbut V’Torah 65, Reseda Trinity Lutheran 34--Noam Dashti had 25 points and 17 rebounds for visiting Tarbut V’Torah (21-2).

In Division V-AA:

North Hollywood Oakwood 62, St. Margaret’s 55 (OT)--Ed Ortega made five three-pointers and scored 15 points for the host Tartans (13-11), who were outscored, 11-4, in overtime.
