Clinton’s Speaking Engagement

When I think of ingrates and hypocrites in the future, I will think about Morgan Stanley Dean Witter and the small percentage of its clients who complained about former President Clinton speaking at its High Net Worth conference [“Morgan Stanley Chairman Retreats on Clinton Speech Amid Client Complaints,” Feb. 12].
If they had opened their minds for any part of the last eight years, they would be eternally grateful for the enlightened economic policies of the Clinton administration that made them (and many other Americans) “high net worth.”

I was very disappointed to learn that former President Clinton was asked to speak, and did so, at the Morgan Stanley Dean Witter High Net Worth conference. However, I applaud the chief executive, Philip Purcell, for his public apology to clients for having issued the invitation to Mr. Clinton.
It was interesting to read that Clinton’s former press secretary, Joe Lockhart, criticized Mr. Purcell for his apology, saying, “To come out now and make a comment like that lacks class.”
Mr. Lockhart, the only lack of class in this arena is your former boss, who has neither class, ethics nor character.
