What an absurd argument Raul Perez makes regarding the “benefits” of a lack of teacher accreditation in parochial schools (letter, Feb. 16). How can an English teacher in a parochial school who lacks a credential, not to mention a college degree (yes, I know of such a teacher), compare to a public school teacher who is fully credentialed, holds a degree and has the experience of teaching in today’s public school system? Given the resources and the parental support that many parochial schools have access to, as well as the ability to “fire” students who are problems in their schools, public schools would undoubtedly perform at or above a level comparable to parochial schools. Don’t fault teachers for problems in our public schools; instead, work on the system.
