Assassination Plot Foiled, Official Says
A plot to assassinate President Koumba Yala of Guinea-Bissau has been foiled and civilians and military personnel have been arrested, the president’s security chief said.
“Certain individuals . . . began to foment an ethno-religious war, but they have all been arrested,” said Baciro Dabo. “Among them are Lamine Queita, a military man and the president’s chauffeur, and Malick Biaye, another military man who was sent by a third party to cut the president down at the airport on his return from Portugal.”
Yala returned late Wednesday from Portugal, where he sought medical treatment.
